Dedication Ceremony

Potomac Hospital Holds Dedication Ceremony for New Building

On Sunday, March 5, 2006, more than 200 people gathered in the Hylton Education Center at Potomac Hospital to dedicate the newly built, four-story patient care building, which will replace most of the hospital's existing patient rooms.

The new Potomac Hospital, which opened on March 14, houses all private, single occupancy rooms that promote our family-centered care philosophy and encourage family/visitor involvement in the care of a loved one. Each patient room has internet access; a sitting area with a couch or sleep chair that can be used as a bed for an overnight visitor; soft colors, warm lighting and soothing décor to help patient recovery; windows for natural light; and a flat screen television and phone line.

"We are so thrilled and proud to finally open our new patient care building," said Bill Moss, Potomac Hospital president. "It's the culmination of many years of planning, hard work and community involvement that makes this so special. In 1972 Potomac Hospital opened because of a grassroots community effort and the new Potomac Hospital was made possible in part by this same community dedication. We plan to uphold our end of this partnership by continuing to provide quality medical care to our community for many years to come."

Other speakers at the Dedication Ceremony included Lt. Governor of Virginia, William Bolling; Bill England of McCullough England Associates Architects; Tom Kreutzer, chairman of the Potomac Hospital Board of Trustees; and Marion Wall, chairman of the Potomac Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. The invocation was provided by hospital chaplain Reverend Russell Gunter and a special rendition of "Bless This House" was performed by Maureen Deutermann, MSN, R.N., Director of Community Education at Potomac Hospital.

Donnie Hylton and Malcolm Cook, of the Cecil and Irene Hylton Foundation, presented William Moss, president of Potomac Hospital, with a check for $1 million at the Dedication Ceremony of the new Potomac Hospital on Sunday, March 5. The Cecil and Irene Hylton Foundation pledged $7.5 million to Potomac Hospital's Campaign for Your New Potomac Hospital, an $11 million capital campaign to help fund the new patient care building.

This $1 million donation was a matching gift contingent upon the campaign receiving $1 million in donations from the community. In October, the two-year, $1 Million Hylton Matching Challenge was met by the community with donations totaling $1.38 million.

Currently, the campaign has reached the $10 million mark of the $11 million goal and will continue until that goal is met.

More than 200 guests attended the Dedication Ceremony in the Hylton Education Center on March 5, 2006.
