Ground breaks for the New Potomac Hospital

Hylton Foundation makes leadership gift

On Tuesday, October 7, 2003 Potomac Hospital held a groundbreaking ceremony to kick-off the massive, two-year construction project that will culminate in a brand new, state-of-the art medical surgical facility to replace the current one built in 1972.

Hospital president Bill Moss, hospital board members and several community leaders and county officials were on hand to symbolically and officially begin the construction process that will eventually completely transform Potomac Hospital.

"This is a great day for Potomac Hospital!" says Moss. "We've been working toward this for many years and to finally see it come to fruition is deeply gratifying. The new Potomac Hospital will be a boon to this community, and it will help us fulfill our mission of providing the best care possible to the residents we serve."

Marion Wall, chairman of the Potomac Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, made a very special announcement at the groundbreaking: "It is my pleasure to announce that The Hylton Foundation has pledged a total of $12.5 million dollars to the Potomac Hospital Foundation."

Over the next seven years, the Hylton Foundation will donate $7.5 million dollars toward building the new facility, and $5 million dollars to fund operational enhancements in the Irene V. Hylton Emergency Care Center.

The Hylton's community concern and giving spirit will continue to make an enormous difference in the lives of those who live and work in Eastern Prince William County. Their generosity will help Potomac Hospital grow with the needs of the community and provide the best care possible to everyone who walks through our doors.

A new four-story, 180,000-square-foot facility will be built on the campus of Potomac Hospital, and will replace the current medical surgical facility, which dates to the hospital's founding in 1972. The structure will consist of a ground level for support services and an education center, plus three floors above for patient care. All patient rooms in the replacement facility will be private and will feature state-of-the-art patient care equipment and comfortable décor. Construction on the "new" Potomac Hospital is scheduled for completion in 2006.
