In our new patient care building, Pediatrics has been transformed into KidsPORT, carrying through the Potomac River theme of the hospital's nursery areas and KidsCARE, the children's treatment area in the Emergency Care Center. There is a "sunken ship" nurses' station, playroom with a skylight creating the effect of looking up from under water, and other imaginative features such as a castle, treasure chest, bubblers and various art with fishes and animal life.
Equally important are the amenities provided for parents, enabling them to remain comfortably available for their children: private rooms, Internet access and TV, and day beds for a parent to stay the night. Pediatrics also offers parents the peace of mind of a locked unit. Carlene Casten, R.N., M.S., Director of Pediatrics, is excited about the fun theme and how it should help distract her young patients from the anxious feelings of being hospitalized.
We also offer a Teddy Tour for children scheduled to have surgery at Potomac Hospital.

Ahoy! Our pediatric patients love the sunken ship nurses' station in KidsPORT.
