Healthy Heart and Diabetes Screening
Total Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, and Blood Glucose Screenings plus Body Composition Analysis (no fasting required)
Do you know your numbers? Find out for your heart’s sake. Take three quick steps to heart health awareness. Your total cholesterol and blood pressure, which are two important indicators of heart health, will be measured as well as your blood glucose level. A body composition analysis is also included. Professional health educators will discuss your results with you at the time of your appointment.

Nicotine Anonymous meets weekly and offers group support and a 12-step process to assist anyone who would like to stop using tobacco products.

Peripheral Arterial Disease Screening
If you experience leg pain, particularly when walking or exercising, that usually disappears after a few minutes of exercising, you may have Peripheral Arterial Disease or PAD. PAD affects the body's blood vessels, especially in arms, legs, feet and hands. In addition to leg pain, other symptoms of PAD can include: (1) numbness and tingling in the lower legs and feet, (2) coldness in the lower legs and feet, or (3) ulcers or sores on the legs or feet that don’t heal. This screening is for adults who are currently not being treated for PAD.

Self-Guided Smoke Stoppers (A Smoking Cessation Program)
Smoke Stoppers is a highly successful self-guided smoking cessation program that uses a variety of up-to-date techniques and tools to help the smoker reach his/her goal of becoming a non-smoker. The techniques include positive and negative reinforcement, a special relaxation program on CD, and nutrition tips to avoid weight gain while quitting. Smoke Stoppers endorses the use of nicotine replacement therapy as an adjunct to the program and encourages the prospective non-smoker to use a "coach approach" while quitting.

GROUP PRESENTATIONS
For more information about group presentations call (703) 670-1877 or (540) 659-1800, ext. 1877. Instructors will come to your workplace or group meeting. A minimum of 10 people is required for these programs.

In cooperation with the American Heart Association, Potomac Hospital offers heart health education programs to community groups of 10 or more. Children and adults alike can benefit from these presentations aimed at identifying risk factors and encouraging a lifestyle to prevent heart disease.
