This workshop is designed to help adults, children and parents/caregivers learn to manage asthma. Includes information on how asthma affects the body, how to control it by recognizing signs, symptoms and your triggers, and use of controller/maintenance and "rescue" medications. A respiratory therapist will demonstrate proper use and maintenance of equipment including inhalers, nebulizers, spacers and peak flow meters. For adults, parents and children (six years and older).

Asthma Update and Management programs for schools, daycare providers and camp programs train those working with children to recognize the early warning signs and help children manage an asthma attack. Information on how asthma affects the body, how to control it recognizing triggers, and using medications is also included. Offered on location for groups of 10 or more. Certified trainers are also available to present the American Lung Association's Tools for Schools and Open Airways programs.

This class is designed for those who want to learn adult, infant and child CPR and choking procedures for personal use. A tear–out attendance card is included in the booklet. Written and skills evaluations are not part of this class, and an American Heart Association credentials card is not issued.

Our health educators are available to make presentations to groups of 10 children or more on such popular topics as skin cancer prevention, healthy snacking, portion distortion, first aid basics, safety, and small steps to a healthier you! These 30 to 60 minute programs are free of charge.

This American Heart Association course teaches adult, child and infant CPR; relief of choking; and how to manage illness and injuries in a child in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. This class is ideal for those involved in child care that have a duty to respond to a first aid emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements, such as child care workers, teachers, foster care workers, camp counselors, and coaches for children’s sports organizations. A 2-year credential will be issued upon successful completion of a skills demonstration.

In this course teenagers, ages 12 to 15, will learn adult, child and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques. An optional segment on automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) may be added if time allows. A skills demonstration is required. A two-year Heartsaver card will be issued upon successful completion of the class.

This program for 11- to 13-year-olds is designed to prepare young people for the responsibility of taking care of young children. Interactive format covers many aspects of babysitting including how to handle emergency situations and behavior problems, plus safety tips for the sitter.

These Tours are for children who are having surgery at Potomac Hospital. On the tour, children will talk with a nurse about what happens during surgery, visit the recovery room, and look at blood pressure cuffs, stethoscopes, surgical gowns, masks and other essentials. The tour lasts about 30 minutes, and children leave with a bag of goodies and an added measure of courage to face the big day
