Q.
At what age did you decide to pursue a medical career and why?
A.
I was about 18-years-old. I took my father -- who has diabetes -- to see a foot specialist, which I later learned was a podiatrist. My Dad had a diabetic foot infection and I was intrigued and astonished how the podiatrist was able to save my father’s foot from total amputation. This experience heightened my interest in podiatry. Both of my parents have diabetes; therefore I wanted to be part of a large-scale, collaborative treatment plan for preventative/surgical care for diabetics.
Q.
What are your particular interests within your specialty?
A.
Pediatric gait issues, sports medicine, diabetic foot care and salvage surgery, biomechanical gait analysis for runners, sports injuries, foot and ankle fracture management, and reconstructive foot surgery. I’m also a wear tester for running shoes.
Q.
What are your interests outside of work?
A.
I enjoy spending time with my family, playing tennis, golf, and basketball. I enjoy watching football and attending museum openings of new exhibits. I also collect ancient antique display items from Egypt, India, Japan, and Italy.
Q.
What’s the best part about being a physician?
A.
The ability to perform immediate in-office procedures to alleviate my patient’s condition, issue, and/or injury. It gives me great pleasure and gratification when I can see my patient walk out of my office feeling significantly better than when he/she walked in.
