Information About Your Hospital Bill

Thank you for choosing Potomac Hospital for your hospital care.

As the patient, you (or the person financially responsible for you) are responsible for your bill, regardless of your insurance coverage. It is important that you know the terms of your insurance policy – what it covers and what you are required to pay.

Many healthcare insurers require pre-certification/authorization before hospitalization or testing and will reduce or deny payments if this policy is not followed. Please notify your insurance company within 24 hours of your urgent/emergency visit as they may require this. You or your family must call your insurance company to ensure pre-certification is obtained. This number is usually found on your insurance card.

Any co-payments, deductibles and other charges not covered by your insurance will be requested at the time of your visit, unless you have made other financial arrangements in advance.

A summarized hospital bill will be mailed to you after you are discharged. The hospital bill will be for the hospital charges only, including fees for diagnostic laboratory and radiology tests, special treatments, supplies, equipment, operating and recovery room care, dietary supplements and medicines.

You will be billed separately by your physician and other specialists involved in your care while you were hospitalized. You may receive separate bills from your attending doctor as well as from contract physicians, including radiologists, anesthesiologists, and emergency department physicians.

If you anticipate difficulty paying your bill, it is important that you contact one of our Patient Account Representatives at (703) 670-1335. Potomac Hospital has a variety of payment options available for our patients. Patient Account Representatives are available at (703) 670-1335 to assist you in determining if you qualify for financial assistance, discounts, or whether there are programs available that will help pay your balance. You will also be advised of any federal, state, or local financial assistance programs for which you may be eligible.

Again, thank you for allowing Potomac Hospital to participate in your healthcare.
