Junior Volunteer Program

The Junior Volunteer Program (formerly known as "Candy Stripers") is a year-round program run by the Potomac Hospital Auxiliary. This program gives young people in the community the opportunity to contribute as responsible individuals to the well-being of our community. Junior Volunteers broaden their horizons, acquire knowledge and expand their experiences by working in the hospital and by observing the many varied and interesting healthcare careers represented here.

The Junior Volunteers are selected once a year in a process which begins with an application submission during the month of March. Applicants must be 14 years old on or before June 1 of the year they apply and be rising 8th, 9th, or 10th graders. They are asked to work a minimum of two three-hour shifts a month. Junior Volunteers are to be citizens in good standing in their community and students in good standing at school to be accepted and remain with Potomac Hospital.

Applications for the Junior Auxiliary Program are accepted from March 1 to March 31, 2008. Applications can be downloaded online or picked up at the Information Desk at Potomac Hospital. All completed applications must be postmarked by March 31 to be considered for the Junior Auxiliary.

For more information about the Junior Volunteers, please call the Junior Volunteer coordinator, Joanne MacMurray, at (703) 680-7273.
