Healthfinder
Healthfinder is a free gateway to reliable health information developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It links to carefully selected information from over 5,300 Web sites, including U.S. government agencies, major nonprofit and private health organizations, state health departments, and universities. It covers over 1,000 topics and includes many resources in Spanish. Search results are sorted into Web resources (like online brochures, Web sites, journals, and databases) and organizations (including home pages, toll-free information numbers, and services). The "News" section features online health news from the Surgeon General, NIH, CDC, state health departments, and major nonprofit's, as well as major newspapers and TV and radio networks. The "More Tools" section features links to medical libraries, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and much more. Launched in April 1997, Healthfinder has been frequently cited as one of the most reliable, comprehensive and easiest to use Web sites for consumers looking for health and medical information. It has received over three dozen awards for excellence. Healthfinder is a free information and referral service only. It does not offer medical advice or diagnosis, recommend physicians or hospitals, or endorse any specific product or service.
MEDLINEplus
MEDLINEplus is the National Library of Medicine's Web site for consumer health information. It is not an exhaustive list of every health Web resource, but a selective list of authoritative health information sources from National Institutes for Health (NIH) and other organizations. "Health Topics" are the core of MEDLINEplus and list health topics by category and alphabetically. Each page links to health information from NIH and other reviewed sources and also includes a MEDLINE search. A medical encyclopedia is also available. "Dictionaries" provide access to six medical dictionaries, including translating dictionaries, and links to other lists of dictionaries.
