Potomac Hospital Featured In Healthcare Design Magazine

Potomac Hospital’s new patient care building was featured in Healthcare Design magazine’s annual Architectural Showcase. Built in March of 2006, Potomac’s patient care building was featured in the Patient Tower/Education Center category of this special issue, which highlights how building design impacts healing environments in hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country.

Featured hospitals are chosen in partnership with The Center for Health Design, a research and advocacy organization that encourages and promotes the use of evidence-based design to create healing environments in hospitals, clinics, physician offices, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities. The Center is “committed to researching how the design of the healthcare setting affects patient satisfaction, staff satisfaction, nurse retention, medical outcomes, safety, quality, and financial performance.”

The article highlighted Potomac’s private rooms, state-of-the-art patient care equipment, soft and soothing colors, warm lighting, and appealing décor, which has been shown to benefit patient recovery. Also mentioned were the river-themed wayfinding components expressed in the floor patterns, artwork and overall design that help guide visitors through the hospital.

The Pediatric Unit’s playful and unique nurses’ station as well as the Garden Café, Hylton Education Center and the exterior of the building, were featured in photos.

The design team for the project was McCulloch England Associates Architects out of Charlotte, N.C., and Huelat Parimucha, Ltd., out of Alexandria, Va.
