Denis Halmi, M.D., a bariatric surgeon on Potomac Hospital’s medical staff, is presenting Re-Operations After 1280 Bariatric Surgical Procedures Using Laparoscopic And Mini-Open Approach at the 12th World Congress of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity in Porto, Portugal in September. All of the operations that are referred to in the study were performed at Potomac Hospital.

In July, Halmi also presented 4155 Minilaparotomy Gastric Bypass Operations: A Time And Volume Tested Approach For Safety, Efficacy And Efficiency In The Treatment Of Morbid Obesity at the 24th annual meeting of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery in San Diego, Calif.

Halmi is the medical director of Potomac Hospital’s Weight Loss Surgery Center, which is an American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS) Center of Excellence. The ASBS Center of Excellence program recognizes the best of the best in weight loss surgery programs. It designates Potomac Hospital as a top performing center with a demonstrated track record of maintaining the highest standards in weight loss surgery. This includes high numbers of surgeries, low complication rates, comprehensive pre- and postsurgical programs, and promoting patient safety.

This recognition includes weight loss surgeons Denis Halmi, M.D., and Daniel Tran, M.D., and their practice, Virginia Weight Loss Surgery Center. They perform more than 300 weight loss surgeries at Potomac Hospital each year.
