The Potomac Hospital Foundation Board of Directors has named William H. Flannagan, Jr., Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Potomac Hospital Foundation and Potomac Hospital Corporation. He succeeds William M. Moss, who is stepping down on July 1 after 31 years as President and Chief Executive Officer of Potomac Hospital Foundation and Potomac Hospital Corporation.
Flannagan joined the Potomac Hospital leadership team in 1980 as Vice President, Professional Services. In 1982 he became Vice President, Operations, and in 1985, he was named Executive Vice President / COO responsible for all day-to-day hospital and affiliated operations. He will continue to serve in this role until a replacement is named.
Flannagan is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the American Hospital Association and the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association. He is a Preceptor for The George Washington University, Department of Health Services Administration, and for the Medical College of Virginia, Department of Health Administration, which awarded him its Thomas C. Barker Outstanding Preceptor Award in 1999. He and his wife, Beth, a teacher with Prince William County Schools, live in Lake Ridge.
Moss has accepted a new position as Executive Director of Potomac Hospital Foundation. In this capacity, he will represent Potomac Hospital and Potomac Hospital Foundation in relationships with donors, supporters and others in the community, and work with other healthcare organizations that provide educational and collaborative assistance to hospitals. In addition, he will serve as an advisor and consultant to the Potomac Hospital Foundation Board of Directors.
