Dale City Civic Association Names Patricia Sears as 2007 Kathy Feeney Nurse of the Year

On Friday, January 25, the Dale City Civic Association presented its Kathy Feeney Nurse of the Year award for 2007 to Potomac Hospital’s Patricia Sears, R.N.

Sears has worked at Potomac Hospital since 1988 as the Administrative Nursing Coordinator on the evening shift. She is a graduate of Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge and Northern Virginia Community College, where she received her associate’s degree in Nursing.

According to her colleagues who nominated her for this award, Sears demonstrates the highest level of commitment to the patients and families. Her motivation for every decision is what is best for the patients.

“In her position, she is the leader for the evening shift and it is in this capacity that she excels. She has the ability to motivate others, to help them see each situation from the patient’s point of view, and to help them work together as a team to accomplish more then they could individually,” states Gail D. Russell, vice president of Nursing at Potomac.

A trademark of her nursing care is the ability to establish rapport with families and patients through respect and empathy. Sears encourages patients to take active roles in their care and makes sure they have the necessary information to make good healthcare decisions.

At Potomac Hospital, Sears is known for her boundless enthusiasm for nursing and her belief that each member of the team has a critical skill to bring to the patient. Sears uses her personal time to stay current in the nursing field and remains convinced that nursing is the best profession in the world.
