Carol Shapiro, M.D., MBA, a plastic surgeon on Potomac Hospital’s medical staff, will receive the 2008 Medical Society of Virginia Salute to Service Award for Service to the Profession. Dr. Shapiro will be honored a the Society’s physician gala on Oct. 11.

According to the Medical Society of Virginia, the Salute to Service awards are given to physicians, medical students and others who are dedicated to creating and nurturing a caring health and disease prevention environment by providing service on behalf of all Virginians. This includes service to the uninsured and underserved, the international community, and to the profession.

Shapiro is an original member of Potomac’s medical staff, which she joined in 1972 when the hospital opened.
