Potomac Hospital Nurses Become S.A.N.E. Certified

Potomac Hospital’s Irene V. Hylton Emergency Care Center nurses Teresa Martinez, R.N., and Lisa Butler, R.N., have completed the rigorous state requirements and are now certified sexual assault nurse examiners (S.A.N.E).

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program began in May 1995, and offers training in forensic sexual assault examination techniques. SANE program nurses support law enforcement officials by conducting a comprehensive forensic physical. The nurse examiner provides consistent holistic care to the survivor of sexual assault, aids in prevention of sexually-transmitted diseases, and serves as an expert witness should a case require prosecution. The program provides 24-hour coverage and serves patients 18 and older.
