Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology (CVIR)

(703) 670-1771 or (540) 659-1800, Ext. 1771

Early diagnosis of blocked arteries saves lives. Our CVIR lab enables the cardiologist to look at moving pictures of the heart and arteries so that they can accurately diagnose heart problems.

Our board-certified interventional radiologists perform minimally invasive procedures in our lab using small incisions, small catheters and imaging techniques. They are experts at identifying and treating peripheral vascular disease, uterine fibroids, spinal bone fractures and aneurysms as well as inserting lines used for dialysis, antibiotic therapy and chemotherapy.

Non-Invasive Cardiology

(703) 670-1321 or (540) 659-1800, Ext. 1321

Non-Invasive Cardiology offers a variety of diagnostic services including EKGs, exercise stress tests, nuclear stress tests, echocardiograms and EEGs.

Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab

(703) 670-1881 or (540) 659-1800, Ext. 1881

Potomac Hospital offers cardiac rehabilitation to clients who have heart disease and/or have undergone heart surgery. Pulmonary rehabilitation is offered to clients with a history of pulmonary disease. Clients attend exercise sessions and educational sessions three times a week and are supervised by trained rehabilitation nurses. We also offer a Heart to Heart Support Group, for people with heart disease and their families, and a Pulmonary Rehabilitation Support Group for those who have pulmonary disease.

Potomac’s Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs are certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). Certification by AACVPR recognizes programs that are rigorously reviewed by a national board and found to meet essential requirements for standards of care.

Heartbeat is a regular feature in Potomac Hospital's quarterly Vim & Vigor magazine and Health Connection newsletter. If you would like to receive a free subscription to Vim & Vigor, please let us know by using the Guestbook form. Note: subscriptions are available to people who live in the Potomac Hospital service area.

Len Fischer definitely doesn’t have a fear of commitment. In fact, his loyalty is evident in many parts of his life. In September 2007, Len went to Potomac Hospital’s Cardiac Rehab Department for the 1200th time since he began the program after heart bypass surgery in 2000 at the tender age of 82. This record number of cardiac rehabilitation visits was celebrated by the staff and patients with food, laughs and few gifts.

According to Fischer, his favorite exercise is the treadmill because, “the rowing machine and I don’t get along.” Fischer attends cardiac rehabilitation sessions every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and says, “If I could I’d come on Tuesday and Thursday too.”

Now 89, Fischer is still married to his lovely wife of 66 years, Evelyn, and has been retired from the Army for 35 years after 35 years of service. He and his wife have made Lake Ridge their home since 1974. (Oct. 23, 2007)
